Frequently asked questions
Everything organizers and buyers ask us about running a raffle online in the US.
Getting started
What is Rifa Ya?+
Rifa Ya is an online raffle platform. You create a raffle page with your prize and a live number board, share the link, and people pick their numbers. You collect the payments directly, run the draw and deliver the prize. We provide the technology only.
How much does it cost?+
Raffles with up to 100 numbers are free. If you want extra tools, an Activated raffle is $9 and a Premium raffle is $19, paid once per raffle (boards of 1,000 or 10,000 numbers: $19 and $39). There are no subscriptions.
Do you take a commission on my sales?+
No. Buyers pay you directly and Rifa Ya never touches that money, so there’s no percentage, no processing fee and no payout to wait for.
Do I need to download an app?+
No. Rifa Ya works in the browser on any phone or computer. You manage everything from your dashboard, and your buyers only need your link.
Payments
How do I get paid?+
Your buyers pay you directly with whatever you accept: Venmo, Zelle, Cash App, PayPal or cash. You add your payment handle in your settings, and when someone pays you, you tap “They paid me” in your dashboard to mark their numbers as paid.
Do my buyers need an account?+
No. They pick their numbers and leave their name and WhatsApp number (and an email if you activated your raffle, so we can remind them before their hold expires). No sign-up and no password.
What happens if someone holds numbers and never pays?+
On the free plan, held numbers stay under the buyer’s name until you confirm or release them, so you’re always in control. On an Activated or Premium raffle you choose how long a hold lasts (2, 6 or 24 hours); we email the buyer before it expires, and unpaid numbers go back on the board.
The draw
How is the winner picked?+
You choose when you create the raffle: a random draw by Rifa Ya among the paid numbers (with a timestamped draw record), a public drawing such as your state’s Pick 3 or Pick 4 daily lottery, or your own live drawing. Announce the method up front and stick to it.
What if I don’t sell all the numbers?+
That’s up to you as the organizer, and it’s best to say it in your raffle description: draw only among the numbers that were paid, move the draw date, or refund your buyers. With Rifa Ya’s random draw, only paid numbers can win.
How do buyers know the raffle is real?+
Every raffle page shows the prize, the organizer, the price per number, the numbers left and the draw date and method. After the draw, the winning number is posted on the same page. Buy from organizers you know or trust, and pay the organizer directly.
Rules and safety
Are online raffles legal in the US?+
It depends on your state. Raffles are regulated state by state, and in many states only registered nonprofits (schools, churches, charities, civic groups) can hold them, sometimes with a license or permit, limits on prizes or rules about selling online. Check with your state or local gaming or charitable authority before you start. Rifa Ya is a technology platform and doesn’t give legal advice: following the law is the organizer’s responsibility.
Can I raffle cash or a gift card?+
Some states restrict cash prizes or treat gift cards like cash. Physical prizes such as a gift basket, electronics, sports gear or an experience are the safest choice. Check your state’s rules for your type of organization.
Is there an age limit?+
Yes. You must be 18 or older to create a raffle or buy numbers on Rifa Ya.
How do I contact Rifa Ya?+
Message us on WhatsApp at +57 316 874 7515. Questions about a specific raffle (prize, payment, draw) go to that raffle’s organizer.
How does the money work on Rifa Ya? We are a technology tool: each raffle belongs to its organizer, who collects payments directly, runs the draw and delivers the prize. Rifa Ya never receives the money or holds prizes. See terms →
